Alan W. Fields, 78, of Douglassville, husband of the late Eileen (Cawkwell) Fields, passed away on Monday, Oct. 12, 2020 at Amity Place.
Born in Sheffield, England, he was the son of the late William and Irene (Hall) Fields.
Alan attended Raisin Hall Road Infants School and then Monteney Road Junior School both in Sheffield. After passing his 11 plus exam he went to Ecclesfield Grammar School also in Sheffield. He passed several GCE exams and won a place as an apprentice draughtsman at Brightside Foundary Engineering Company also at Ecclesfield. After spending time there he qualified as a draughtsman becoming highly skilled at his job so much so that he was head hunted by several other companies.
He moved to work for Ashlow Engineering and then Davy Engineering having become a design engineer gaining an HNC in engineering along the way before his move to America where he worked until his retirement. He stated on many occasions that living and working in America were the happiest time of his life. After retiring, Alan moved from his home in Massachusetts to be closer to his daughter Kelly and her family in Royersford, PA. where he was able to spend his final years with his granddaughters Nicole and Alexa. Alan also enjoyed sports, whether playing as goalkeeper at Sunday football to cricket in a local team. In his later years, he would spend his days watching sports. He loved his hometown team of Sheffield Wednesday F.C. and following his move to America turned his allegiance to Boston’s Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins. Affectionately known by his UK grandchildren as Popa, he would spend his visits to the UK playing Play Doh with Izzy and Milly. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed.
Surviving are sons Mark Thompson and David Alan Fields; daughter Kelly Ann Scott (Fields); brother Brian Fields; and grandchildren Isabella Mae Fields, Amelia Rose Fields, Nicole Elizabeth Scott and Alexa Leigh Scott.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
