Allen E. “Al” Fritz, 81, husband of Helen (Winget) Fritz for 53 years, of Gilbertsville, passed away on Saturday at Pennsburg Manor.

Born in Norristown, he was the son of the late Arthur E. and Margaret (Brendlinger) Fritz.

Allen was a member of Falkner Swamp UCC in Gilbertsville. He was a talented musician playing trumpet in the Army Band in the 1st Calvary Division during the Korean War and locally with the Sunliners for 30 years. Al worked as a technician for the former AT&T, now Lucent Technologies, for 32 years before retiring in 1986. He later worked for Kulp Rent-A-Car in Gilbertsville as a driver for 10 years. He was a charter member of the Skip-Perk J. C.’s and loved woodworking as a hobby.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his sons Michael Fritz, husband of Connie, of Boyertown and Craig Fritz, husband of Betsy, of Gilbertsville; daughter Sandra Moyer of Royersford; sister Helen Atwell, wife of William, of Zieglerville; and 9 grandchildren. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Margaret Ann McMurray.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, 11:00AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Phila. Ave., Gilbertsville. Visitation will be from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
