George M. Longaker III, 84
George M. Longaker III, 84, ex-husband of April (Stolpe) Longaker, passed away peacefully at his home in Pottstown on Saturday, July 23, 2022.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Dr. George M. Longaker, Jr., and Helen (Feldman) Longaker.
George was a 1964 graduate of Ursinus College but was known to many in the community as an expert plumbing and heating specialist. He was immensely proud of his profession and never chose to retire, continuing to work as an independent contractor until his death. He had a well-earned reputation for making sure that people throughout the area had heat during the winter, especially his elderly customers, and he probably spent time in more cellars in the Pottstown region than any other person, living or dead. He was also an ardent sports fan all his life but the Phillies’ frequent penchant for losing eventually caused a love-hate relationship with the team to develop. He was one of a kind and will be forever missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his ex-wife, April Longaker, his son, Mark Longaker, and his niece, Kristina (Gehris) Higgins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Olivia (Longaker) Gehris, and his nephew, James H. Schade, Jr.
A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George’s memory to Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia (https://giving.jefferson.edu/giving-guide/give.html or Jefferson Office of Institutional Advancement, 125 S. 9th St., Suite 600, Philadelphia, PA 19107).
