Eric Christopher Welch, 49, of Gilbertsville, formerly of The Colony, TX, husband of Kimberly Allison (Frey) Welch, passed away Sunday June 27, 2021 (his 49 and a half birthday exactly) in Dewey Beach, DE. His final day was spent doing what he loved, basking in the sun and sand, and enjoying a margarita and a good burger.
Born in Evergreen Park, IL, he is the son of Jack and Kathleen Susan (Pechloff) Welch, Sanatoga PA. Spending most of his childhood in The Colony, Texas, Eric had many good friends with whom he still kept in touch, his best being John Waesch, who thankfully shared, “Eric was known as “Dunky” by his closest friends, and the only time you would hear the name “Eric” in his house is when Kathy (his mom) would scream “Eric Christopher!” and you knew it was serious. Eric was a very loyal friend and treated friends like family. Eric was an amazing goalkeeper for the TCHS soccer team and then played college soccer at Brookhaven College in Texas. His closest friends would joke that Eric played goalkeeper because he got to wear the fancy goalkeeper uniform, with expensive gloves, expensive jersey, pants, and always headband. In addition to soccer, Eric was an amazing volleyball player. He always had a taste for the finer things in life. Dunky was loved by some, disliked by some, but most importantly, he was noticed by everyone and that’s the way he liked it. Until we meet again someday Dunky, the ZB Boys love you.”
Since marriage, Eric was a selfless loving family man and enjoyed the simple things in life~ driving his car with the top down while singing loudly to his 80’s playlist or country music, getting a tan at the beach, searching out or making the best Bloody Mary; and he showed his love for his family through cooking (which he got from his mom) and barbequeing. His daughter Reilly, who he loved fiercely and with all of his heart, allowed him to continue his passion for his favorite sports as he attended as many soccer games and volleyball matches as he could with the pride of a loving father throughout the years. Most of all, Eric loved spending time at home with his family and was the constant pillar, with a peaceful demeanor and pleasant smile, on which they all depended.
Surviving along with his wife and parents is his daughter Reilly Isabel, who has the same sparkle in her eye and laid-back disposition as her daddy, his adored more than they know stepchildren Michael and Cassidy Jemo; younger brother Jason Welch of White Haven PA, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Eric’s life will be held privately at a later date.
