Harold H. “Hal” Burke, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Chestnut Knoll in Boyertown, Pa. He was married for 41 years to the late Sandra Syman Burke.
Born in Front Royal, Virginia, he was the son of the late Charles Hubert Burke and Anna Jeannette (Nossett) Burke.
Hal graduated from the University of Delaware with a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his engineering career at the Sperry Gyroscope Company in Great Neck, NY. Hal then worked at the Glenn L. Martin Airplane Company in Baltimore, MD. For the final 25 years of his career, he worked as a ballistics engineer at Aberdeen Proving Ground. He enjoyed great success over a long career during which his projects were awarded with numerous patents. Hal was also a member of the Free Masons. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking in his spare time. He loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. Hal was eternally devoted to his beloved golden retriever, “Goldy”.
Surviving are his daughters; Mary Boggs, wife of William Boggs, and Betsy Vanderbeek, wife of Richard Vanderbeek; sister, Anna Burke Preisinger; grandchildren, William M. Boggs, Tyler J. Boggs, and Benjamin J. Vanderbeek; niece, Sarah Preisinger. He is predeceased by his brother Charles Burke.
A memorial service will be held in Bel Air Maryland at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (399 Market St. Suite 102 Philadelphia, PA 19106) in memory of Hal Burke.
