Herbert E. McCoy, 78, of Boyertown, husband of the late Patricia A. McCoy, passed away Thursday at Manor Care in Pottstown.

Mr. McCoy was the grandson of Sam McCoy of the historical Hatfield and McCoy feud and son of the late Hobert and Katherine McCoy. Mr. McCoy is survived by his loving and devoted companion Dolores Reppert; one daughter Donna Nyce of Perkiomenville; five sons Larry of Harleysville, John of Stafford, VA., Michael of Boyertown, Tim of Perkiomenville, Patrick of Springerville, AZ; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one brother Paul of Mohnton, PA. He was predeceased by one sister Martha (McCoy) Neuschwanderz.

Mr. McCoy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Boyertown. He was a past Master of Union Masonic Lodge #479 of Birdsboro, and also a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason of Valley of Reading. He was also a member of the Pikeville Sportsman Club, Keystone and Friendship Fire Companies of Boyertown, and the Boyertown Orioles.

Mr. McCoy was employed for 13 years as a Correctional Officer at Graterford, employed 14 years with Henkels and McCoy in Blue Bell and Tampa, FL, and for 10 years as a line painter Supervisor with former Finer Lines and Berks Traffic Services of Blandon, PA., and worked last with the PLCB Wine & Spirits Shoppe in Gilbertsville.

A funeral service will be celebrated Thursday March 22, 10:30 AM at Catagnus Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Philadelphia Ave., Gilbertsville. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:00-10:15 AM with a Masonic Service starting at 10:15 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown.
