James M. Steber, 79, of New Hanover Twp., husband of Ruth Rosenberger Fisher and the late Madalyn (Bonenberger) Steber, passed away Monday February 8, 2021 at The Willow Senior Living Community in Macungie.
Born in Lansford, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Lisicky) Steber.
Jim was a graduate of Lansford High School. He earned his teacher certification and B.S. in Biology from East Stroudsburg State College, his master’s degree in Biology from Bloomsburg State College, and his Doctorate in education from Rutgers University.
Jim had a very fulfilling life and career that included being a high school biology teacher, football coach, principal, and Assistant Superintendent of Schools for both the Annville Cleona and Boyertown Area School Districts. In 2018, Jim was inducted into the Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid outdoorsman who particularly enjoyed fly fishing and fly tying with his brother Jack and sons. He especially enjoyed the many years of fishing trips to the Beaverkill River in NY state. Hiking, camping, and hunting were some of the many other outdoor activities he enjoyed very much with his family. Jim made everyone he came into contact with feel special with his outgoing personality and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone.
Surviving along with his wife Ruth are three sons James Steber husband of Jeanette of New Tripoli, Seth Steber husband of Meeta Pancholi of Lehighton, and Christian Steber of Allentown; brother’s Jack, Joe, and Mark; grandchildren Clay, Kyle, Vanessa, Alexis, Christina, Jade, Mira, and Skyy; step-children Seth husband of Erica, and Rachel; and step-grandchildren Logan and Mason.
Along with his first wife and parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother Ron Steber.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
