John K. Wetzel left quite a legacy behind. This legacy does not comprise of grand accolades or worldly success. Rather, he leaves a legacy in the simple, loving ways he impacted his community and all those around him.
John grew up in Souderton, PA, and later went on to Lehigh University. There he studied Civil Engineering, and played in the marching band, having much fun and silly antics with the other band members and friends. While he did work in his field for most of his life, for a time he worked as the director at both Mensch Mill Retreat Center and Fernbrook Center. In 1988, John met the love of his life, Judy (Bower) Wetzel. Their love story is a real life fairytale as the affection they had for one another from the start radiated out of them and poured out onto their family and friends. John and Judy did everything together as they enjoyed every adventure in life. They prioritized family and raised 2 children, John C. Wetzel, and Kate (Wetzel) Renninger. They also built a business together, Magical Wonders Vacations, and traveled extensively, living every day to the fullest.
John was a quiet, humble man who often sat off to the side, patiently and kindly supporting the dreams of others. He boasted little of his own successes and accomplishments, but, without exception, he would joyfully share the achievements of his children and those around him. He had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help, no matter how much it cost him. John’s example was ultimately inspired by his faith and the example Christ sets out for us in the Bible. So, in the end, we rejoice that he is now reunited with the Lord in heaven.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Friday, August 20th at New Life Bible Fellowship Church, 2960 W Philadelphia Ave, Oley, PA. Visitation starts at 10:00am, and the service will begin at 11:00am. A light cookie reception will follow.
