Joseph Lloyd Benson, 89, of Royersford, formerly of Philadelphia, Audubon, OCNJ and Brigantine NJ, husband of Marie Therese (Terri) Benson (Halligan) of 59 years, passed away this past Tuesday March 23, 2021 at his residence. Josephs wife and children were all by his side when he passed.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph Lloyd Sr. and Florence (Higgins) Benson.
Joseph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War enlisting at 17 years of age. He served with the 8th Army, 78th AAA GN BN and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Stars affixed, the United Nations Service Medal and Ribbon, the Army Of Occupation Medal and Ribbon, The Distinguished Unit Citation Medal and Ribbon (now referred to as the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon), the US Army Korea Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and Purple Hearts. He loved the many beaches that he lived at from Florida to Ocean City, NJ. Joseph worked for 30 plus years in Telecommunications and enjoyed being a bartender for most of his life. He was always the life of the party.
Surviving along with his wife are his two daughters Cynthia A. Bishop wife of Michael F. and Lisa A. Baurley wife of Michael R.; one son Joseph Lloyd Benson Jr.; grandchildren Christine Marie, Audra Noelle, Michael Francis Jr., Michelle Jolie, and Mia Joy Bishop, Lola and Joseph Lloyd Benson III, Dyana Lorraine, and Robert Michael Baurley; brothers Albert and Ronnie; sisters Florence and Rita; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his grandson Ryan Michael Baurley; brothers Justin, Richard, and Gerald; and sister Nina.
A memorial service will be held privately at a later date.
