Merrill M. “Jim” Gauger, age 88, of Pottstown, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Southeastern Veterans Center, in Spring City, Pa..   Mr. Gauger was born on August 1, 1921, in Linfield, Pa., & was the son of the late Annie (Taggert ) Gauger, & the late Horace S. Gauger.  He was the beloved husband of Mary (Helfrich) Gauger for 60+ years before she passed away in 2005.

Mr. Gauger was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, &  for 37 years he & his late brother Morris “Spike” Gauger, owned & operated Gauger Brothers Service Station on North Hanover Street  in Pottstown. He was also a long time member of the Zion’s United Church of Christ in Pottstown, & a member of the American Legion for 65 years, most recently affiliated with Post #0244.  He also loved watching both the Philadelphia Phillies & Eagles perform.
Mr. Gauger is survived by his son Jeffrey Gauger, husband of Patricia, of Birdsboro, Pa., 5 grandchildren, & 6 great-grandchildren.  In addition he is also survived by his sisters, Viola “Pet” Domin, of Pottstown, Helen Nagel, of Gilbertsville, Dorothy Miles, of Harleysville, & his brothers, Horace “Rube” Gauger, of Gilbertsville, & Kendall “Pete” Hoover, of Kenilworth.  Mr. Gauger was also preceeded in death by his sons, Robert Gauger, and James Gauger, his sister, Charlotte Bauer, & his brothers, Warren ‘Barney” Gauger, John J. Gauger, & Morris T. “Spike” Gauger.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday, March 13, 2010, starting at 11:00 AM from the Zion’s United Church of Christ, Hanover & Chestnut Streets, Pottstown, Pa., 19464, & to his Visitation from 9:30 – 11 AM in the church.  Burial will be held privately by his family at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Gauger’s name to the above named church would be deeply appreciated by his family.
