Orpha (Welsh) Miller, 99, wife of the late John W. Miller, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at Keystone Villa in Douglassville.
Born in Pottstown, she was the daughter of the late William R. and S. Mabel (Reiff) Welsh.
Orpha was a guidance counselor for Owen J. Roberts School District for 18 years, retiring in 1979. She was also a nursing instructor and director for Wilmington General Hospital, Pottstown Hospital School of Nursing, and Pottstown Memorial Hospital for 15 years. She was a member and past president of Pottstown Business and Professional Women’s Club, a charter member of American Association of University Women, and a member of the National Education Association and Pennsylvania School Education Association.
Orpha was the past president of the Pottstown Hospital Nurses Alumni. Other groups and organizations she was a member of were the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association, Peter Becker Community Auxiliary, Pottstown Area Seniors Center where she was past president and a board member, and Pottstown Church of the Brethren where she was a teacher, an organist, a choir director, and a board chairperson.
Surviving is daughter Diane (Miller) Deffobis, wife of Gerald Deffobis and grandsons Timothy Deffobis and Andrew Deffobis.
A celebration of Orpha’s life will be private and at the convenience of the family.
