Paul Bryan Burdett, 52, husband of Cindy Jill (Smook) Burdett, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2021, at Reading Hospital.
Born in Peoria, Illinois, he was the son of Chester Burdett and the late Marilyn (Shyrock) Burdett. Paul was born on April 10, 1969 at 6 months at 2 1/2 lbs in a taxi cab. Born as a premie baby, he was a fighter from the beginning. He grew up in the Lutheran faith and converted to the Catholic faith in his early twenties. He felt called to the priesthood and joined the seminary. He studied at St. Charles Seminary for 5 years until God told him that he was called to holiness within the lay vocation. He went to Franciscan University and graduated with a Masters in Theology and Philosophy. At Franciscan, he met Cynthia Jill Smook. They were married on June 14, 1997. Paul worked in sales and was a natural promoter. He enjoyed fishing, wood carving, hiking, writing poetry, and making cakes (Seraphim Cakes, a Taste of Heaven.) Paul was known as “The Grill Master” regardless of season. He was the “resident theologian“ and always the man-in-the-know.
Paul was a member of St. Columbkill Parish in Boyertown for 13 years where he served on Parish Council, led book studies, was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and served on healing prayer teams. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and he was a board member for “A Baby’s Breath” crisis pregnancy center. Paul was a prayer warrior and had a fervent devotion to the Eucharist and the Most Precious Blood. He was a virtuous man who placed God, family, and others first. He had a love for the unborn and all things holy.
Paul had a hemorrhagic stroke on May 14, 2021. He passed away on May 30, 2021, on the Feast of Blessed Trinity and the vigil of the Feast of the Visitation.
Surviving along with his wife Cindy of 23 years, are his children Tereze Burdett, Noah Burdett, Moses Burdett, and Gianna Burdett; sister Laurie Watkins, wife of Brent; nephew Elijah Watkins; and niece Paige Watkins.
The viewing will be held on Sunday, June 6, 2021, from 5:00-7:00pm at St. Columbkill Church. There will also be a viewing on Monday, June 7, 2021, from 9:30-10:45am at St. Columbkill Church. The funeral mass will follow on Monday, June 7, 2021, at 11:00AM at St. Columbkill Church (200 Indian Spring Rd, Boyertown, PA 19512) with Fr. Martin Kern officiating. Burial will follow at New St. Aloysius Cemetery (800 Block of Buchert RD., Pottstown, Pa, 19464.)
