Robert Lewis Nester, 94, of Hatfield, husband of Carol Ann (Jones) Nester, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 19 at his home.

Born in Norristown, he was the son of the late Leon and Pearl (Lewis) Nester.

Robert served in the US Army Air Corp. during WWII as a tail turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator Bomber Plane. He completed 44 combat mission with the 747th Squadron, 456TH Bomber Group, 304th Bombing Wing, 15th Air Force in Italy and left the military as a Staff Sergeant. After the war he attended Pierce College. He worked for and later owned his father’s sporting goods store. Following the sale of his business, he went on to work for Collegeville Flag and Manufacturing Company as a plant manager. They later promoted him to production manager of their costume division. At that time, he had also served on the Board of Directors for the West End Merchants Association for 15 years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a 74-year member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM #620 in Norristown. He loved to travel in his motorhome and always managed to make friend wherever he was. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found his second home in a cabin on Loon Lake in Ontario, Canada. There he found a passion for wood working well into his later years. Robert lived a life devoted to his family and his county. He leaves this world loved by many.

Surviving with his wife of 65 years are sons David Robert Nester and James Leon Nester, husband of Monique; sister Elizabeth Ann Cutillo; and grandchildren Morgan James Nester, Kendahl Monique Nester, and Kara Cherea Nester. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Leon Harvey Nester Jr. and sisters Pearl Florence Pickell, Edith May Kilmartin, Dorothy Eleanor McGory, and Catherine Virginia Nester.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, 1:00PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
