Thomas J. “Tom” Hickey, 101, beloved husband of the late Marguerite (Brown Stern) Hickey, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 surrounded by family at his home.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William & Anna (Maloney) Hickey.
Thomas was a graduate of West Catholic High and LaSalle College. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II, including with the JAG in India. Tom was known as the Voice of SEPTA, where he worked as the public relations manager until retiring in 1981. Following that, he briefly worked as overseer of the Mulvihill family travel bureau in Scranton, before working as an agent for H&R Block tax bureau until 2000. He was a member of the Optimists of Philadelphia, the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society of St. Martin of Tours Parish.
Surviving are his children Mary Judith Stern Burke, wife of the late James, Marguerite Stern Gallagher, wife of John, Raymond Dennis Stern, husband of Carol, Deacon William L. Hickey, husband of Melissa, Elizabeth Hickey McLaughlin, wife of Gerald, and Thomas J. Hickey Jr., husband of Maggie; 22 Grandchildren; 28 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild. He is predeceased by his sister Rita Hickey, his brother John Hickey, his granddaughters Dorothy Burke Kozak and Marguerite Burke Miller, and his great granddaughter Allison Rose Moore.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church (256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA 19473). Burial will be held privately by the family at a later date. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 9:00-10:45 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta.
