Frances Burns Russell, 91, of Frederick, PA died Monday, July 5, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones at Lehigh Valley Hospital. She was the wife of Louis Donald Russell. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Edgar and Eva McCartney. She was known to those who loved her as Fran, Mom, Grandma, Granny Fran, Great Grandma (GG), and friend, and to her many students as Mrs. Russell. She taught first grade in the Pocono Mountain School District for 10 years. Fran enjoyed volunteering: from being on the Monroe County advisory committee for children and youth, to teaching Sunday school, to leading girl scouts, to creating devotionals for dementia patients in her later years. Following the example of Jesus, she sought to pour out her life for others. She was known as a shining light, eager volunteer for any intergenerational program, a blessing to others, good friend, and artist. These unique traits didn’t stop her competitive edge in game playing; she was often crowned the winner. As she grew older, she kept connecting with others in her quest to encourage their own skills and talents. She is survived by a son, Dr. Gary Russell (Dr. Susan) of Tunkhannock; 2 daughters: Becky Hess (Jack) of Lancaster, and Connie Reichart (Pic) of Barto; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Russell, her brother, Jim McCartney, and her daughter, Kathleen Russell. To all those who spent time reading this obituary, in her memory; will you smile at a stranger today? A memorial service will be held at 3:00 on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Butter Valley Community Church, Bally, PA with visitation from 2:00p.m. to 2:45p.m. Burial will be at a later date.
