John Leon Zaneski, 94, of Pottstown, devoted husband of the late Florence M. (Janaskie) Zaneski, whom he married in 1954, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14 at Sanatoga Court.
Born in Shamokin, he was the son of the late John J. and Monica (Yezerski) Zaneski. John was known to friends and family as Jake or Zeno.
John was a graduate of Coal Township High School Class of 1945. Upon graduation he served in the US Navy until 1946. He went on to work at Pottsville Casting Works, Pennsylvania Railroad, and as a driver for Shamokin’s East End Beverage Company. John was a Corrections Officer for 38 years at Graterford and Frackville State Correctional Institutions. He also worked part-time as a custodian at St. Aloysius School in Pottstown for 15 of those years. He retired in 1991. John was a member of the St. Francis Home Association and East End Fire Company in Shamokin.
Surviving are sons Michael G. Zaneski husband of Lynda, Gerard Zaneski husband of Wanda, John G. Zaneski husband of Diann; four grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his sister Emily Kanaski.
Services and interment are private.
