Anna “Ann” W. Smith, recently of Pottstown, PA - a caring wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and faithful friend - passed away of natural causes and fearlessly entered into her Lord’s presence at the age of 96 on Monday March 21, 2022. The only child of Frank and Emma West, she was born November 28, 1925 on the family farm in Pughtown, PA. After graduating from Spring City High School, she attended Chester County Hospital’s School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She married William H. Smith on May 5, 1951, who preceded her in death on November 17, 2014. Together they raised three children: Dwight (Cindy Deddy), Paula (Elwood Taylor), and Kevin. Nanette Ybera (Joseph Morrone) became an honorary daughter in 1979 while attending college. Ann is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer (Jon), Gregory (Lauren), Lauren (Jon), Theresa (Edward), Anna, and Eli. She also has 7 great grandchildren. Ann was happiest while serving others - graciously entertaining guests in her home, arranging flowers for the church, or caring for the sick. She loved volunteering at the Women’s Exchange in support of the Chester County Hospital. She belonged to the Pottstown Garden Club and found pleasure tending to her vegetable and floral gardens. Ann embodied the true meaning of kindness and caring. She will be sorely missed by the many she touched throughout her life. Ann will be laid to rest at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church’s cemetery following private graveside remembrances by the family.
