Paul H. Hunziker, 76

Paul H. Hunziker, 76, of East Coventry, husband of Elvira A. (Ragazinskas) Hunziker, passed away Wednesday March 23, 2022 at Paoli Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Herman and Lillian (Smith) Hunziker.

Paul served in the US Army, in the 9th Infantry Division, during the Vietnam War. His experience in the Army helped him decide to study Computer Science at Hunter College, which led to a 20+ year career as a Program Manager for IBM. During his time at IBM, Paul also undertook the task of building a new home for his family, from the ground up and with the help of trusted professionals in the home construction field, in Pleasantville, NY. In the mid-1990's, Paul chose to retire early from IBM so he could pursue his dream of owning a business. He became a franchisee for Gloria Jean's Gourmet Coffees, opening stores in White Plains, NY and Danbury, CT. He was also passionate about his two favorite pastimes, fishing and going to the horse races, where he would bet small but cheer big.

Surviving along with his wife is his daughter Susan P. Hunziker; son Paul V. Hunziker (Nicole Turner); and granddaughter Emily L. Hunziker.

Along with his parents, Paul was predeceased by his sister Patricia Hunziker.

A memorial service will be held Saturday April 9, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, LLC., 1020 E. Philadelphia Ave., Gilbertsville, PA 19525. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2:00-2:45 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Paul’s memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at https://www.michaeljfox.org/donate

Add My Condolences

Vera, one of my biggest regrets in life is not maintaining my friendship with Paul. Paul was the nicest person I have ever known. I thought about him many times over the years. I am truly sorry for your loss and wish I could have maintained a close relationship with him.

Vera, I was so sorry to hear about Paul. We were office mates at IBM Harrison in Linda Goldberg's group. Paul and I went to Yonkers Raceway and the Meadowlands for horse racing and went fishing to Block Island, Moriches, Quincy Bay. He was a great mentor to me and was always patient and kind even when we had stressful programming deadlines. He was a great friend to me. Regards, Bob Schwartz
