Dorothy L. “Dottie” Whitfield, 75, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and longtime companion of the late Samuel Wade Jr., passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Promedica Nursing Home in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
Born in Pottstown, Dottie was the eldest daughter of the late Solomon Whitfield Sr. and Hazel Size Whitfield. Dottie was a registered nurse who had a gift for serving others.
Dottie spent the bulk of her nursing career at Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia. She was careful in serving her patients with dignity, respect, and compassion. Feisty, headstrong, politically savvy and loving, Dottie always had strong interests in politics and philosophy. She loved to listen to music. Some of her favorite singers included Patti LaBelle, Bobby Womack, and Nina Simone. In her spare time, Dottie enjoyed gardening, horticulture, spending time with her family and chatting with her longtime best friend Lois Conway of Philadelphia, PA.
Surviving her are her beloved sons Damon Wade and Alex Wade; stepson Guy Wade; brothers Conley Whitfield Sr., Solomon Whitfield Jr., and Clarence Whitfield; grandchildren Jada and Zair Wade; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her stepson Samuel Wade Jr. and her brother Benny Whitfield.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Catagnus Funeral Home (711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown, PA 19464). The funeral service will be held immediately after at
11:00 AM at Catagnus Funeral Home with the Reverend Allen Harris officiating. Burial will be held privately by the family.
