Barbara “Barb” Shontz, 79

Barbara “Barb” A. Shontz, 79, wife of Henry Shontz, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Pottstown Hospital.

Born in Pottstown, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Dorothy (Kline) Repko. She was raised in Boyertown, and was a 1960 graduate of Boyertown High School. She went on to complete 2 years of higher education at Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA.

Barb was known for being a compassionate friend and supporter of people and animals alike. She was also recognized throughout the community for her extraordinary baking.

For the last 23 years, Barb created delectable desserts for the Jukebox Cafe in Boyertown. She also provided baked goods to the Hill School for students’ birthdays in the 1990s and early 2000s.

In addition to her passion for baking, Barb was a long-time advocate of the preservation of natural outdoor spaces, which prompted her to create Beaufort’s Run Sanctuary in Upper Pottsgrove Township, a woodland trail and soothing landscape named in memory of her beloved dog, Beaufort. She was also a Certified Reiki Practitioner and a student of healing touch therapy. She felt her calling was to use these modalities to help dogs and other animals struggling with health issues.

Barbara is survived by her husband Henry of 58 years; her daughter Susan Hughes, wife of Gary; her son Christopher Shontz; brother Ronald Repko, husband of Ruth Ann, of British Columbia; grandchildren Eric Hughes and Cole Shontz; and her beloved dog Rosie.

Services will be held privately by the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morris Animal Foundation (https://www.morrisanimalfoundation.org/) or to Heritage Conservancy (https://heritageconservancy.org/) in Barbara’s name.

Barb always had something nice to say and a huge smile that lit up a room. She never left me without giving me a hug and saying, "Goodbye sweet girl. I love you." I loved catching up with her and hearing about the latest and greatest recipe she wanted to try for baking. Rest In Paradise Baraba.. until we meet again you will always hold a special spot in my heart. <3
