Born December 17, 1932 – Passed on April 2, 2023

Charles A. Mest, Sr., 90, of Kutztown, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023 surrounded by loved ones at Willow Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Carol A. (Phillips) Mest.

Born in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry and Helen (Romig) Mest.

Charles loved to fix things (his favorite tool was his hammer), ride his lawn tractors (with some very unique repairs to them) and ride his motorcycle with his loving dog in the side car. He enjoyed hunting, painting houses and cars. It was best not to park your car with any type of rust on it as he was known to fix your car with house paint or whatever paint he could find. Charles was a longtime member of the Pikeville Sportsman’s Club. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Charles was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He is survived by his children Charles A. Mest Jr. (wife Carol), Joseph H. Mest (wife Debbie), Charlene Sulzer (husband Edward), John Mest (wife Darlene) and Cheree Rothenberger (husband Jacob). Step-daughters Michelle Weller, Renee MacDonald and Rhonda Kline; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren with another on the way; and brothers Gary and David Mest.

Along with his parents, Charles was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Barry Mest; and sisters, Dorothy Yusko, Joyce Ruppert, Joan Olinger and Ruth Dudanowicz.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Rd., Fleetwood, PA 19522.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles’ memory to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Rd., Birdsboro, PA 19508.

You were the pops a man can have and I was blessed to have you as my dad and to be named after you. Heaven just got the best maintenance man and great guy. You are now with your mom, dad and your brothers and sisters. We will celebrate your life telling stories and there are many as friends have been calling recalling many of your experiences with them. Love you pops
