Richard W. Lightcap, 91

Richard (Dick) Lightcap, 91, of Douglassville, PA, husband of Eileen (Smith) Lightcap passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, with Eileen by his side.

Born in Spring City, he was the son of the late Earl D. Lightcap and Ada (Fox) Lightcap Elliott.

Dick graduated in 1949 from Spring City High School where he was very active in the band as a trumpet player. Dick proudly served six years in the United States National Guard earning the rank of Sergeant. Following this, he served his community as a Phoenixville police officer before pursuing his “hobby,” driving.

Dick was an over-the-road truck driver for many years, driving for PIE, ABF, and Carolina, until he retired. He also owned and operated his Gilbertsville-based radiator repair business, Dick’s Radiator Shop, for many years, until he decided to retire, again. However, that retirement did not last long, and keeping with his love of driving, and people, he went on to work for Klein and Perkiomen bus companies and eventually Wannish Limousine.

In his younger years, he was an avid roller skater later becoming the manager at Caln Roller Rink in Downingtown, where he met his wife, Eileen, and then an instructor at Kimberton Roller Skating Rink. Dick and Eileen continued to skate together until 2015. Dick was a lifetime member of Gilbertsville Fire Company No. 1, a member of Pike Township Sportsmen’s Association in Oley, PA, and a member of Boyertown Lodge No. 741 Free and Accepted Masons. When not driving, Dick enjoyed being outside, whether that was working on his well-manicured lawns, soaking in the magic at Disney World, or starting one of his many construction projects. He also enjoyed all things food, especially breakfast, where he was a regular at several of the local diners.

Surviving along with his wife of 45 years, Eileen, are his children Charmaine Viscuso (John Zielinski); Lorraine Lewis (Lisa Rigle); Richard Lightcap Jr.; Anthony Lightcap (Ginny); Steven Lightcap; Scott Lightcap (Chris); and Christine Berardi (Steven); 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sisters Ruth Custer and Bette Wojton.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 11:30 am at Catagnus Funeral Home (1020 East Philadelphia Avenue, Gilbertsville, PA 19525) with Rev. Don Epps officiating. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, from 10:30 -11:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s name to the Montgomery County SPCA, 1059 Sweisford Road, Perkiomenville, PA.
