Merrill “Mac” Shirey, 87
Merrill “Mac” Shirey, 87, of Pottstown, husband of Jane A. (Reichelderfer) Shirey of 66 years, passed away Sunday July 23, 2023 at Manatawny Manor.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Malcolm C. Sr. and Anna (Sninski) Shirey.
Mac enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was an accomplished athlete in high school who excelled in baseball, football, and basketball. He was entered into the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame for his team’s 48-0 record at Pottstown High School. He was also inducted into the Tri-County Area Hall of Fame in 2005. Mac will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who had a great sense of humor.
Surviving along with his wife is his daughter Lori Prueitt wife of Brad; son Merrill Douglas Shirey Jr. husband of Kristine; grandchildren Benjamin Prueitt, Nicholas Prueitt, and Alexandria Shirey; and brother Glen Shirey.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Malcolm Shirey Jr. and sister Barbara Bolonski.
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, LLC., 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown, PA 19464. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Pottstown. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:30-10:45 AM at the funeral home.
