Peter A. Gostomski, 85

Peter A. Gostomski, 85, formerly of Erie, husband of the late Linda Ann (Smith) Gostomski, passed away Tuesday August 8, 2023, after a four year battle with cancer.

Born in Erie, he was the son of the late Stanley and Theresa (Aloiz) Gostomski.

Peter is survived by his children: Peter Gostomski husband of Colleen Fry, Lynn Reinhart wife of David, and Patrick Gostomski husband of Stacy Breuers; grandchildren Emily Kotalik wife of Sean, Thomas Reinhart, Timothy Gostomski, and Amanda Gostomski; brother Paul Gostomski; and sister Helena Eckels and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife and parents, Peter was predeceased by his brother Lawrence Gostomski and his sisters Mary Grace DeGeorge and Patricia Leach.

Peter was employed for over 40 years at GTE repairing telephone switchboards for many of the large industries in and around Erie. He proudly served for 22 years in the Naval Reserves as a member of the Seabees. His favorite job was selling parimutuel tickets at Commodore Downs in Fairview which combined his fondness for games of chance and the possibility of winning it big.

Peter was a long-standing member of American Legion Post 742 in Fairview, PA. After retirement, he enjoyed serving as a pontoon boat operator at Presque Isle State Park, teaching visitors about the local flora and fauna. Along with his beloved wife, Linda, he was an avid runner, gardener, and traveler. He will be remembered by family and friends as a kind and generous soul who always had a funny story to share (unless you were a squirrel).

Per his wishes, services will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org or to the charity of your choice.

I knew Pete many years ago through running and Nautilus. I remember him as rather quiet, but very witty, always enjoyable. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I just loved your dad. He was so fun and kind. I will always remember being amazed when he waved at us from his truck with no hands on the steering wheel!

Great Mr. G joke: at a reserve weekend up the sergeant callsout: Ready, Aim, Fire at Will and the poor guy ends up with a thousand holes in him...rest in peace Mr. G.
