Janice Grace (McDonald) Hess, 97, died peacefully Tuesday, October 10 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Janice was born August 18, 1926 in Harford County Maryland to Fulton and Idella McDonald.
Janice is survived by her daughter Rebekah Sparks (Charles) of Exeter, two sons, Geoffry Hess (Georgi) of Harrisburg and Gregory Hess (Susan) of Spring City. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Harry W. Hess and her daughters Jessica and Amy.
After graduating from Fawn Township High School in York County, PA, Janice attended and graduated from the St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD in 1948. For the next 30 years, she was employed as a registered nurse by the York Hospital, the Pottstown Memorial Hospital, the Visiting Nurse Association of Pottstown and Pennhurst State School and Hospital. During her retirement Janice was a hospice volunteer and active with The Compassionate Friends, a peer support group for grieving parents.
Family members will hold a private gathering to celebrate her long and loving life.
