MaryKay Hines Gvodas, 78, of Royersford formerly Pittston, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday, October 30, 2023. Born in Pittston on April 29, 1945, she was the oldest daughter of the late John A. Hines and Kathryn Callahan Hines.
She was a graduate of Pittston High School. She was a founding member of DeanMatt Medical, a home medical equipment company, which she helped grow into what is now the largest Home Medical Equipment company in the country. She worked as its front office manager for many years and retired in 2018. A devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart Church of Royersford for almost 50 years, MaryKay was also a faithful servant in her role as an extraordinary minister for the parish. She was an avid dancer throughout her life, showing off her tap dancing and jitterbug skills at family weddings and parties. As a certified yoga instructor and group aerobics instructor she had supported hundreds of clients and students in their health and fitness.
MaryKay dearly cherished her family. She enjoyed trips over the years with her siblings, cousins, and life-long friends. All were welcome to her home and nothing brought her more joy than to entertain family and friends with music, food (her specialty: “whimpies” and her mom’s coleslaw) and games. She created life-long memories for her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry in their hearts MaryKay’s promise, “Something could be nothing and nothing could be something!”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John A. Hines, Jr., Father Joseph W. Hines (Ret. USN), and Gerard A. Hines.
