John “Jackie” R. Shaner, 68, husband of Marlene C. (Law) Shaner, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, January 5, 2024, at his home in Boyertown, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Warren Shaner and Janet (Will) Baronoff. He was a graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School, class of 1973. He retired in 2021 after 43 years of service from UPS Freight, formally Overnite Trucking.
His wife, children and grandchildren were always a priority. He and Marlene enjoyed many years of traveling to watch his granddaughter play high school and competitive softball. John was an avid car enthusiast. He has a 1933 Dodge Sedan he and his eldest son had been working on restoring for many years. In addition, his grandson recently purchased a 1973 Plymouth 360 Duster. He spent quality time teaching him the art of restoring cars. Every year he looked forward to attending the NHRA Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove and also The Wheels of Time and Carlisle car shows. If John wasn’t tinkering in the garage and jamming out to the 60’s tunes, you could find him watching Motor Trend TV or MeTV. He spent many weekends with his younger son doing many home improvement projects and playing with his grand dogs, Roxy and Jake. He loved the times he could catch a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park and analyzing football games over group text with his sons.
Surviving along with his wife Marlene, of 47 years and his 3 cats, Boots, Chubby and Teddy, are his sons Carl Shaner, husband of Heather; Curt Shaner, fiancé of Amy; brother James Sabol, husband of Adelaide; brother Warren Shaner, husband of Louise; sister Mary Beth Austin, wife of John; grandchildren MacKenzie and Kile Shaner.
The family wishes to not have services at this time.
