Elmer J. Bechtel, 87, husband of Anna M. (Gamler) Bechtel, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Born in Boyertown, he was the son of the late Warren and Edna (Hartman) Bechtel.
Elmer enjoyed traveling with his wife, Anna. He organized many bus trips over the years. He enjoyed country music and going to carnivals to listen to bands play. Elmer worked at William R. Gift for 36 years. He loved his work and the relationships he built throughout his career. He was a longtime member of St. John’s Hill Church.
Surviving along with his wife, Anna of 65 years, is his son Dennis J. Bechtel, husband of Kay; daughter Brenda Hess, wife of David; grandchildren Michele Letting, wife of Josh; and Warren Bechtel, husband of Lisa; great grandchildren Lucas Letting, Makayla Letting; and one expected in October. He is predeceased by his sister Emma Gressley, brother James Bechtel, granddaughter Ashley Bechtel, and great grandson Levi Bechtel.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 11:00AM at St. John’s Hill Church, 620 Hill Church Rd, Boyertown, PA 19512 with Pastor David Bitler officiating. Burial will be held privately by the family at a later date. A viewing will also be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 9:30-11:00AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Hill Church in Elmer’s name.
