Angelina DeMario, 96, of Stowe, widow of Frank A. DeMario, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Thursday, September 5, 2024. Born in San Felice A Cancello, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Luigi Perrotta and Immacolata Piscitelli. Angie was predeceased by 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
In the early 1950's, Frank’s cousin who arrived from Italy told him about a beautiful Italian girl. With the help of a translator, Frank and Angie corresponded by mail until August 1952. They met and married one month later in San Felice. Visa and immigration restrictions prevented Angie from joining Frank in America right away. On June 11,1953, the couple reunited when the USS Constitution docked in New York Harbor with Angie and their newborn daughter Connie, who was born 7 minutes after the boat docked.
Adjusting to the language was challenging, but Angie learned English by reading the Pottstown Mercury cover to cover every single day. Angie was a homemaker until 1970, then was hired as a seamstress in the Bridal Department at Kesslers in Pottstown. It was there that she met Agnes Edmunds (Cohen). Agnes was an extremely positive person who had a tremendous influence over Angie, eventually becoming one of her best friends and mentors. Agnes and Angie made every bride look and feel beautiful on their wedding day.
Agnes opened Agnes Edmunds Bridals in 1971, and Angie worked with Agnes as Master seamstress for 40+ years. During her career, Angie met so many people through her craft both at work and at her home where she also did alterations. Whether she met you in the store or at home, Angie always made you feel special and welcomed. If she altered your clothing, she was not satisfied until the garment was perfect.
Angie was a dedicated member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church and Lodge in Stowe for many years. She will always be remembered as the lead cook for spaghetti dinners and Italian nights at the church and lodge. She was also an avid gardener and loved, most especially, taking care of her roses. Angie had a compassionate heart for immigrants and those less fortunate, she would always have a warm meal to share with those in need.
Angie is survived by her 4 daughters - Connie, Angie (Harry Kingerski), Joanne (James Psota) and Maria (Bill Liney); 10 grandchildren - Jim, Christina, Julie, Susan, Anthony, Joey, Talia, Jon, Sarah, and Rachel; 11 great grandchildren - Charlie, TJ, Harrison, Michael, Samuel, Lucas, Daniel, Vivienne, Jacob, Tobias, and Miriam; and numerous loving nieces and nephews located in the US and Italy.
When recently asked how she would like to be remembered, Angie said “I worked my whole life as a seamstress and I tried to be good to everyone even when they did not agree with me. I tried to make others happy and make peace with all.”
