Valerie Lynn (Boris) Ackerman, 47, of Royersford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Fox Chase Cancer Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Pittsburgh, Val was the beloved wife of Gary Ackerman, with whom she shared over three decades of love and partnership. They met at Indiana University of Pennsylvania when they were just 18 years old, and they married in 2003 in Fort Cherry, PA. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters—Maggie Rose, Lena Grace, and Carly Drew—who were the center of her world. Valerie embraced motherhood wholeheartedly, cherishing every moment with her family.
Val found her greatest happiness planning gatherings with family and friends, volunteering for her children’s activities such as Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) and Girl Scouts, and cheering on her daughters at sports games and events. Her enthusiasm for life extended to travel, concerts, and the holidays, which she made magical for everyone around her. She cherished vacations at the Jersey Shore, finding contentment spending the day on the beach, reading a book, and watching her family enjoy their time together.
She had a distinguished career as a Talent Acquisition Specialist and Director in the IT industry, most notably at TEK Systems and ORS Partners. Val created countless opportunities for others, building lasting friendships along the way. Her warmth, kindness, and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone she worked with.
Valerie was the beloved daughter of Dennis and Karen (Zick) Boris. In addition to her husband and daughters, Valerie is survived by her sisters Amanda Brown (Rob), Leah Cave (Wes), and Emily Boris (fiancé Jeff Barringer); her nieces and nephews Ella, Laney, Robbie, James, Anna, Maya, Reid, and Kevin; her in-laws Elaine and William Bordow; and sisters-in-law Jill Shultz (Steve) and Leah Bordow. She was predeceased by her grandparents Anthony and Anne Zick, Joseph and Luella Boris, her father-in-law Charles Ackerman, and many other loving relatives.
Services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024 at St. Teresa of Calcutta, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA 19473. Visitation will be at the church from 12:00-1:45 followed by a Memorial Mass at 2:00. After Mass a celebration of Valerie’s life will take place at the family’s home.
