Kathryn L. (Long) Moore, 96, of Schwenksville, passed away on December 1st in Douglassville. Kay was born November 17, 1928.
Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Charles I. and Bertha (VanFossen) Long.
Kay was raised on a farm in Limerick and worked very hard alongside her parents and siblings. She would speak about her horse (Stardust) and driving the farm truck loaded with tomatoes to Campbell Soup in New Jersey. Her next job was waitressing at the Rosedale Diner. She drove stock cars at Sanatoga Speedway and was the winner of several “Powder Puff derbies” and trophies.
In 1956 , she and her late husband Edward leased the old Limerick Diner on the North side of West Ridge Pike. Through hard work, they enjoyed success and decided to build their own Diner. In January, 1970 the “new” Moore’s Colonial Limerick Diner opened in its present location. They remained in business for 51 years and a day before selling the Diner in 2007.
Although usually at the Diner from morning until night, Kay enjoyed evening ice cream runs, caring for her many animals, collecting Hummels, shopping at Madaras, eating out at other restaurants, and helping her loved ones.
In 1985, Edward and Kay built Hide and Seek Self-Storage behind the Diner. It is still in operation and run by family.
Kay enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City, Potter County, North Wildwood, Florida and Alaska.
She was devoted to her daughter, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren.
Kay is survived by her daughter Debra (Albert) of Schwenksville, Grandchildren Justin App, Joshua App, and Jordan (Christy) Herr. Great Grandchildren Brooke (Hayden) Groff, Lindsey and Ellinor App, Brody and Sydney Herr, and many nieces and nephews.
