Carl A. Witzel, 92

Carl A. Witzel, 92, husband of Esther R. (Kline) Sheafer Witzel, and formerly married to the late Patricia and late Theresa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Frederick Living.

Born in Linfield, he was the son of the late Albert Witzel and Ida (Houck) Rhodenbaugh.

Carl proudly served in the United States Army for 2 years. During his service time, he was given commendation by the Inspector General’s Office in 1953 for his exceptional performance. He also was awarded Soldier of the week in 1954 at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. In addition to his military service, Carl was an avid hunter. He was also a master craftsman in leather and wood products. Carl was a former scout master for many years. He was a member of several local gun clubs and enjoyed target shooting as a recreational hobby. He also was a member of St. Columbkill Church and a member of the Boyertown Senior Center.

Surviving along with his wife, Esther, are his sons Carl Witzel Jr., husband of Claire; Randy Witzel, husband of Becky; Barry Witzel, husband of Terry; and Mark Witzel, husband of Shannon; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and stepchildren. He is predeceased by his daughter Deborah Diehl, wife of William Diehl.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 11:30AM at St. Columbkill Church (200 Indian Spring Rd, Boyertown, PA 19512) with Fr. Martin Kern officiating. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Pottstown. A viewing will also be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 10:00-11:15AM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Columbkill Church or to the Boyertown Area Multi-Service (200 Spring St, Boyertown, PA 19512) in Carl’s name.

To carls family, I am Esther’s son-in-law John I’m sorry I couldn’t be there for your Fathers services. He will be sadly missed however he’s probably in the woods hunting that big buck.

Esther Carl fought a good fight and as his caretaker he always bought a smile to my face.Carl protect us until we meet again.
