Erma Mae Reidenauer, 89

Erma Mae (Dengler) Reidenauer, widow of the late Eugene Paul Reidenauer, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Reading Hospital.

Born in New Berlinville on January 24, 1935, Erma was the daughter of the late William M. Dengler and the late Mildred Cora (Richard) Dengler.

Erma is survived by her son Mark E. Reidenauer, her daughter-in-law Maureen (McNelis) Reidenauer as well as her much loved granddaughter Megan (Reidenauer) Montgomery and her husband Tyler Montgomery. Additionally, Erma is survived by her sister Helen Faust of Boyertown and her brother Alton L. Dengler and his wife Jean A. of Bechtelsville. She was predeceased by sisters Jean Dengler and M. Elinor Johnson, and her brothers Marvin Dengler and William Dengler (Ann).

Erma enjoyed traveling the world with Eugene. Together they visited all 50 states, including driving to Alaska in their retirement RV. Erma and Eugene shared their love of United States history and patriotism with Megan as they visited many national parks, museums and historical sites each summer.

Gardening gave Erma many hours of enjoyment over the years. She found great pride and joy in her participation in the Boyertown Area Garden Club. She was awarded a second-place recognition in 2021 for her participation in the Grow For It Garden Contest for her timeless work in her gardens.

Erma was well known in the neighborhood for her love of dogs and children. She spent many happy hours walking Molly, the much-loved family pet, around Boyertown. When Molly passed a few years ago Erma found a way to befriend all neighbor dogs but she most cherished her special friend Sophie. The children in the local day care loved their frequent visits to “Miss Erma’s” house and she loved baking them special treats.

Erma was an active member in her church family at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bechtelsville, PA. She especially loved Trinity’s Music Ministry, especially the annual Christmas Catata under the direction of music director La Rue Sheetz.

A memorial service will be held Friday January 17, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1749 S. Main St., Bechtelsville, PA 19505. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00-10:45 AM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Erma’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1749 S. Main St., Bechtelsville, PA 19505.

Add My Condolences

My deepest sympathies on the loss of your mother. She and I communicated from time to time on FB and I got to see her in person at Sister Millicent’s funeral a few years ago. Lovely person.

Mark,

I am just seeing this today, my deepest condolences on the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful person and a wonderful neighbor. Her pictures of our neighborhood groundhog (Chucky) as she called him was always a topic of conversation. I always enjoyed visiting with her even after I moved.

We are so sorry to hear of Erma's passing. We had tried to reach her for a visit but got no reply and saw no notice in the paper so had no idea of her passing. I would like to reach her son Mark. I had worked with Erma.

We will miss you as I saw you almost everyday for the past 10 years! You were always so kind and my children grew to love you and call you Nana Erma. I will always think of you as I see the flowers bloom as that is something we loved to talk about. Seeing your face outside gardening or tending to weeds and making sure things were in their place.
You will be missed around here. Prayers for Your Family.
Sending our love.
