Charles “Charlie” R. Wagg, 78

Charles “Charlie” R. Wagg, 78, husband of Monica M. (Chabala) Wagg, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025, at his home in Pottstown, with his wife and daughter by his side. He was a devoted husband and father.

Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Francis and Sarah (Stanford) Wagg.

Charlie was a proud veteran in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. A1C Air Policeman, assigned to the 821st combat defense squadron. Discharged with honors and earned the rank of Sargent. He joined the Pottstown Police Department following his time in the service, working traffic safety division, and teaching D.A.R.E. among other law enforcement duties. After his retirement from being a police officer, Charlie worked at Catagnus Funeral Home; he worked in the Sheriff Department in Montgomery County, as a Deputy Sheriff, working in the courts and teaching D.A.R.E. to elementary school children throughout Montgomery County.

Charlie’s career as a policeman and deputy spans well over 40 years, but his best memories are of his days spent in numerous schools across Montgomery County, teaching young students important life lessons with D.A.R.E.

Charlie earned his Bachelor degree at Penn State University.

In his down time, Charlie loved to go on road trips with his wife to see their children, grandchildren and family members and going to the Maryland shore.

Surviving along with his wife, Monica, is his daughter Laura Bonsall, wife of Robert; son David Wagg, husband of Dawn; step-son Bret Ford, husband of Debi; grandchildren Isaiah, Mason, and Logan; step grandson Marcus; and several other nieces, nephews, step nieces, and step nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas Wagg.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 1:30PM at Catagnus Funeral Home (711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown, PA, 19464) with Rev. Dr. Carl Filer officiating. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 11:30AM-1:30PM at the funeral home. Burial will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Highland Memorial Park in Pottstown, with Military honors.

Flowers are welcome or donate to the TriCounty Active Adult Center (288 Moser Rd #1, Pottstown, PA 19464) or to Emmanuel Lutheran Church (150 N Hanover St, Pottstown, PA 19464) in Charlie’s memory.

After reading Charles’ obituary, I can see how his son, David is a carbon copy of his father.

David is kind-hearted, compassionate and a dedicated law-enforcement officer like his dad.

I never got to meet Charles, but I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about him from his son david.

Condolences to the Wagg family.

Charlie was one of my first friends when he moved to our neighborhood in Lower Pottsgrove when we were both in 2nd grade. In recent years, I attended water exercise classes with him at the YMCA, and we connected once more at the TRAAC. I will always miss his kindness, and his booming voice, and his great laugh.
