Sunrise: December 19, 1935 – Sunset: May 15, 2025
Raywadai Lachman, affectionately known as “Quatta,” passed away peacefully at her home in Royersford, Pennsylvania on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of the late Chate Lachman.
Born in Leonora, West Coast Demerara, Guyana on December 19, 1935, Raywadai was the fourth child of the late Sukhu and Jasoda (Sukdia) Singh. She is lovingly remembered by her six sisters and two brothers.
Raywadai devoted her life to her family, faith, and community. Alongside her husband and seven children, she spent many years in Anna Catherina, WCD, where her warmth and wisdom made a lasting impact. In 1993, she migrated to New York, bringing with her a legacy of compassion and strength that continued to shine in every aspect of her life.
She was cherished by all who knew her—young and old alike. Known as the “Mother of the Village,” she was a source of comfort and support to many. She shared her talents generously, from consoling crying babies with heartfelt prayers to counseling young families with wisdom and love. She served as Godmother to many, always ready to offer encouragement and a helping hand.
A hardworking and resourceful woman, Raywadai tended the family farm, milked cows, planted gardens, and sold produce at the market. Her creativity was evident in everything she touched, especially in the kitchen. One of her proudest innovations was crafting her own tomato paste recipe, which she packaged affordably by hand for her community.
She lived life joyfully, greeting everyone with her radiant smile. She had a deep love for singing, dancing, and gathering with family. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she especially loved curried crabs, which remained her favorite dish.
Raywadai leaves behind a large and loving family, including her seven children: Ruby Tulsie, Rudy Lachman, Pearl Kerr, Randolph Lachman, Shanti Lachman, Sattie Ram, and Rohan Basdeo Lachman, as well as their spouses. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
