Patrick Bernard "Chubby" Strain (Sr.), 87

Patrick Bernard “Chubby” Strain (Sr.), 87, beloved husband of Kathleen (Stagliano) Strain, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at his residence.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late James E. and Mary (Cylc) Strain.

Chubby had a long career with the railroad retiring after 42 years of service. He loved the outdoors and hunting. Chubby was a longtime member of the Folcroft Gun Club enjoying many adventures with family and friends in Tioga and Sullivan counties. He spent many hours on his zero-turn mower mowing any fields or patches of grass he could find. Chubby also loved birdwatching and identifying each variety for all who were interested. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of two leagues in the area. Chubby was an avid picture-taker, capturing moments he wanted to hold onto forever and rarely being in front of the camera himself.? He was a fixer of all things and the first one there to help family, friends and neighbors. He would jokingly proclaim, “I hate kids”, yet Chubby was never happier than when he was with his many grandkids and great-grandkids. His story telling skills will be greatly missed. Chubby was loved by all.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Kathleen, are his children; sons Patrick Bernard Strain Jr, husband of Trish; Jon Strain, husband of Maryann; Kevin Patrick Strain, husband of Mandy; daughter-in-law Pam Strain (Timothy); grandchildren Jimmy Pat; Jackie; Timmy; Becky; Chris; little Jon; Jackie; Brianna; JC; Blake; Hailey; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Michael; and sister Sandy. Chubby was predeceased by his sons Robert Strain, and Timothy Strain, grandson Luke Strain, and his brother, James Strain.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Most Blessed Sacrament (610 Pine Street, Bally, PA 19503). A viewing will be held from 9:15 AM to 10:45 AM at the church. Burial will follow Mass in Most Blessed Sacrament Cemetery.

Met Pat at the Reading Railroad Veteran Employees Association. He always had a story to tell about the good old days working on the railroad. He made me laugh and always there to help when needed.
