Mary Ann (Wood) Hill

Mary Ann (Wood) Hill November 4, 1960 — November 27, 2025

Mary Ann (Wood) Hill passed away peacefully at her home in Wildwood Crest on November 27, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born on November 4, 1960, and raised in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Mary Ann earned a Bachelors degree in Education from Millersville University and devoted over 30 years to teaching and public education. She began her career working with special education students before becoming the 8th-grade language arts teacher in the Pottstown School District, where she inspired generations of young readers and writers.

An avid runner her whole life, Mary Ann also served as the head coach of the Pottstown boys’ high school track and field team, leading them to multiple State Championships in 1993 and 1994, as well as numerous PAC 10 and District 1 championships. She was an enthusiastic member of the “Brookside Babes” and the Exit 4A Crest Best Book Club, and cherished every summer afternoon at the beach, a love she carried with her throughout her life.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Wood. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Hill; her son, Thomas (TJ) Hill; her mother, Catherine Wood; her sister, Cindy Wood Morris, and her husband, Trip Morris; her brothers, Frederick (Jay) Wood and his wife, Deirdre Wood, and Michael Wood; and many nieces and nephews who adored her. She also leaves behind her beloved Border Collie, Simone.

Visitation will take place on Friday, December 5, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Catagnus Funeral Home, (711 North Franklin St., Pottstown, PA 19464), with a memorial service to follow from 6:00–7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Lazarus House Food Bank at Donate – Lazarus House Ministries|Wildwood NJ  in Mary Ann’s memory.

Mary Ann’s warmth, wit, and unwavering commitment to her students and community touched many lives. She will be remembered for her kindness, her love of books and the shore, and the pride she took in her family

Add My Condolences

This is a beautiful tribute already. I gently polished it for flow and clarity while keeping your voice and heart fully intact. Here’s a refined version you can use as-is or tweak however you like:

Hey Mare,
I was trying to find the right words to write, and I’m so glad I waited until after the memorial to speak to you this way.

You would be so proud of how many people came out to honor you—so many from the Arms crew, whose lives you touched in ways you probably never fully realized.

I knew you as Mare… Mary Ann… and as one of my fellow shore babes. But to so many others, you were Teach, Coach, Friend—and most of all, Mom, Sister, and Daughter.

As you journey on into your next life, we know you’re still running ahead of us, making sure your people are watched over.

Love, The Shore Babes

With deepest sympathy to Mary Ann's family. Mary Ann and I taught together at the Pottstown Middle School. She earned the respect and admiration of all her students. Mary Ann was such a dedicated teacher and coach who gave 100% effort all the time. I am glad that she had an opportunity to retire to beautiful Wildwood Crest and enjoy many relaxing years in the sun, sand and surf. She will be missed.

I knew Mary Ann as a co-worker. She was the kind of teacher that gave her all to her students and athletes. She lived to teach, mentor, and inspire her students. And at that she was fierce and impressive. Her students know she cared, though she might be yelling at them while doing it. Staff and students all knew that everything she did came from a place of love and compassion. RIP

I met Mary Ann through the Lazarus House where I too volunteered. We were always being confused for the other one. Mary Ann and I would just laugh and say “we don’t even look like each other.” But everyone else thought we did. We are the same age and our birthdays are just a week apart. She was a sweet, warm, wonderful woman who will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. Rest in peace my friend🙏🙏🙏

I am so saddened to hear this. I met Mary Ann at Lazarus House and enjoyed many conversations with her. A friend of mine was going thru chemo at the same time and I took pictures of MaryAnn to show my friend when her hair started coming in and it gave her hope that hers too would come in. She was a wonderful person and my condolences and prayers to her family. 🙏

Thank you! Thank you for allowing me to learn from you. For helping my find my potential out there on that track and high jump mat. For challenging me to continue to go further when I thought I knew it all. I wouldn’t have achieved the accomplishments I did without the part you played in my success. May you rest peacefully knowing you impacted the lives of so many of us throughout your career! Thank you! 🙏🏾🕊️❤️

Your Heart was as big as your smile. While it was only a short time we have known each other, it was special nonetheless. Im left filled with the thought that I was able to help make one of your dreams come true (a beach home). I was but a conduit. It was you that did the work. Love knowing how beautiful your life was down here and the friends you made.

Mary Ann will be deeply missed by her many friends in the Crest. We moved into our twin houses one day apart in May of 2020, enjoying many nights of happy hours and dinners on our adjoining decks with our families during covid. My memories of kayaking, golfing, beach days, dog walks ,happy hours, mooncussers and of course Book Club and mahjongg will be with me always. Mary Ann’s wonderful and kind spirit will live on in TJ and Liz ,whom she loved with all her heart. You will be forever missed my dear friend. RIP❤️
