Arnold “Bud” Bender, 80

Arnold “Bud” Bender, 80, of Trappe, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Diane (Procaccino) Bender, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage, partnership, and love.

Born in Philadelphia, Bud was the son of the late Arnold R. Bender and Marie (Manno) Neubauer. He lived a life marked by service, faith, and quiet strength. Bud served his country during the Vietnam War and went on to serve his community for more than 20 years as a police officer. He was deeply devoted to his church, where his life was guided by his faith in Jesus Christ. That faith shaped the way he lived, loved, and cared for others. Above all, he served his family with unwavering love, hard work, and presence.

Bud’s service to his family is what left the most lasting imprint. His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was at his happiest in their company, whether gathered around the dinner table or cheering his grandkids on at a sports game. His deep affection for his wife, Diane, was evident to all who knew them, and their nearly five decades together were the foundation of his life.

Bud had many interests that reflected his thoughtful and observant nature. He loved music of all kinds, bird watching, and cheering for the Philadelphia Phillies, most days. He enjoyed coaching youth sports and took special joy in encouraging young people. A lifelong reader, Bud loved passing that passion on to the next generation. He frequently read to elementary school children, inspiring curiosity and imagination in young minds. He was affectionately known as “Mr. Book,” a nickname that stayed with him throughout his life. Early in his career as a police officer, his keen eye and attentiveness also earned him the nickname “Hawk Eye.”

Bud was deeply loved and respected by many, and his steady presence will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his daughters, Tricia Osterman (Eric) and Sheila Bender; his son, Eric Bender (Aftan); eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Valley Forge Baptist Church, 616 South Trappe Road, Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. (Service will also be live-streamed)

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bud’s memory to BEAMS Bible Ministry at https://beamsbibles.com/memory-and-honor/

My cousin, Bud. The memories stirring in my heart stretch over 6 decades. I hold dear the many times my brother and sisters sat by your side listening with anticipation to your many fascinating stories and enchanting tales. There were always countless smiles, enduring compassion and a boundless warmth of heart. It is the abundant love and joy of those memories that help me overcome the sorrow to let you go.

The tears shed here on earth are overcome by His grace and the smiles from Heaven

Dear Diane, Oh how we love Bud! For 24 years that we have known him he has enriched our lives and our church family. His investment in loving and serving others - especially our children and teens - is having an eternal impact. We loved the tradition of him reading the Christmas story on the platform with the children surrounding him at our Celebrate Christmas service. He always made sure he had EXTRA candy canes - because he did not want one child to be missed (and maybe an extra one for himself too). His weekly reading as Mr. Book at our Academy made him a treasure to the students. We miss Bud! He lived in such a way to be missed - this is the example he has set for the rest of us who still have time to impact others for Christ.
