James “Jim” Michael DeWan, Sr., 77, husband of Debra Sue (Barnett) DeWan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Born in Norristown, he was the son of the late James Thomas DeWan and Dorothy Ruth (Eckman) DeWan.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, riding horses, and playing in slow pitch softball leagues over the years. Above all, he gained the most pride and enjoyment from spending time with his six grandchildren. He was a rural carrier for the Collegeville Post Office for his entire career with the United States Postal Service.
Surviving along with his wife, Debra of 46 years, is his daughter Lindsay Merkel, wife of Sean; daughter Amy Missimer, wife of Brad; son Jesse DeWan, husband of Traci; brother John Thomas DeWan; grandchildren Trent Merkel, Peyton Merkel, Hunter Missimer, Kaden Missimer, Caleb DeWan, and Reagan DeWan. He is predeceased by his son Jimmy DeWan Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:00AM at Catagnus Funeral Home (1020 E. Philadelphia Ave, Gilbertsville, PA 19525). Burial will be held privately by the family following the service. A viewing will also be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 10:00AM-11:00AM at the funeral home.
