John P. Wynne Jr., a devoted husband, grandfather, and man of deep Catholic faith, passed away on October 1, 2026 at the age of 83.

Born on March 12, 1943, in Flushing, Queens, John arrived on his father’s birthday. As his namesake son, his birth that day was a particularly special blessing. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ronald.

John attended St. John’s University and later received his MBA from Adelphi University. He enjoyed a highly successful career in finance, serving as Chief Financial Officer for a major health system encompassing multiple hospitals. Exceptionally intelligent and known for his sharp wit, John had an extraordinary work ethic and a drive that remained with him throughout his career. He was deeply respected for his financial acumen and unwavering dedication to his work. Many of the people he worked with over the years became lifelong friends, and those friendships extended well beyond his professional life. These dear friends remained an important part of John’s life and were there to support him and his family during his final days.

John shared 58 years of marriage with his wife who was the love of his life. His marriage to Ruth and his relationship with God were the two greatest sources of love, strength, and meaning to him. Together, John and Ruth adopted four children.

John was a loving grandfather whose grandchildren brought him tremendous joy. His nieces and nephews were also very special to him, and he treasured the relationships he shared with them.

John’s Catholic faith was a defining part of his life and a source of strength and comfort throughout the years.

He will be deeply missed by Ruth, his children and grandchildren, and all those who knew and loved him. The two great loves of John’s life were Ruth and his Catholic faith. For nearly six decades, Ruth was by his side, and his faith remained a guiding presence. In his final days, he was held by the same love and faith that had sustained him for so many years.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday October 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Columbkill Church, 200 Indian Spring Rd., Boyertown, PA 19512. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00-10:45 AM at the church.

Add My Condolences

I had the distinct pleasure of working for John as he led finances at the Health System as it’s Chief Financial Officer. He was an extremely intelligent, creative, challenging, dedicated, sensitive and caring leader. While demanding, he was compassionate and understanding with a tremendous sense of humor. He was always supportive of me and my staff no matter the situation. He was a proud, religious man that loved and cherished “Ruthie” and their family. Judy and I extend our sincerest sympathies to her and the entire Wynne family. He was loved and will never be forgotten. While not able to attend, we viewed the streaming of the beautiful service of which John would have been extremely proud.

I worked for John for several years while working for Penn. He was tough, but compassionate. He had a sly and cutting sense of humor that had many hesitating as they tried to figure whether he was angry or just sending a message. I enjoyed his wit and his toughness. He supported me while many didn’t, and that support was a significant part of my career. My sympathies go out to his wife, Ruthie, who was always the counterpoint to John’s sharpness. And to the rest of his family. I am sure John has already started his career as the Chief Financial Officer, but thankfully, without his WynneMobile. Thank you John, for your support and, I hope, friendship. Bob Knox
