Betty Jane (Fry) Karver passed away peacefully at Chestnut Knoll where she had been a resident for the past nine months. She was 100 years old. She was the daughter of John and Mary Fry. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Jerry Karver, who died in 2016. She is survived by a son, Jeff Karver and his wife (Cindy), her daughter Jana Styer and her husband (Adolph), as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Betty was a graduate of Boyertown High School, the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, and West Chester University. She worked as a nurse for Dr. John Waring in Boyertown, an instructor of Student Nurses at the Pottstown Hospital School of Nursing, and as an instructor of Medical Assistants at the Berks County Vo-Tech School (West Center). Along with her parents and her husband, she owned Karver & Fry Toys and Gifts in Boyertown for more than 20 years where she sold wedding gifts to hundreds of Boyertown area brides and Christmas gifts to many Boyertown area children. She enjoyed life and was able to live on her own until she was 99 years old. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a friend to many and will be missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at New Hanover Lutheran Church (2941 Lutheran Rd, Gilbertsville, PA 19525) at 10:00AM on Saturday, October 17, 2026 immediately following a viewing from 9:00AM-10:00AM at the church. Burial will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences (RHSHS), (Check payable to Berks County Community Foundation - 237 Court Street, Reading, PA 19601) in Betty’s name.
