Charles “Butch” Murray, 87, of Limerick, PA, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, in Sanatoga, PA. Born March 12, 1939, in Norristown, Butch is remembered by his family as a man with a great sense of humor who always looked on the bright side.
Butch grew up in Trooper, the son of Charles and Alice Murray. He served four years in the Air Force as a mechanic and earned the Good Conduct Medal. His working years took him to Matlack Trucking and then to Metz Wilson Bus Services, where he especially enjoyed taking the local youth sports team to and from their games.
Butch loved going to sporting events, spending time with his family, and telling stories, often with such humor and detail that even those who had heard them countless times couldn’t help but laugh. Few things made him prouder than watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. Heart issues were part of his story for nearly his entire life, but they never defined it. He never dwelled on the hard parts; he looked for the bright side, found it, and shared it with everyone around him. His quick wit stayed with him to the end. On his final trip to the hospital, when asked what he would like to be called, he replied, “You can call me anything, just don’t call me late for dinner!”
Butch was the long-time partner of the late Donna Kelly. He leaves behind his children, John McGoldrick, Vern McGoldrick, Charlene Versak, and Charles Murray Jr.; his grandchildren, Aron Versak and his wife Lauren, Alexis Versak, Samantha McGoldrick, Michael McGoldrick, Dana McGoldrick, John McGoldrick Jr., Sierra Kelly, and Cody Kelly; and his great-grandchildren, Averie Versak and Ryleigh Versak; and Donna's son, Ben Kelly.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law & best friend, George Versak; his granddaughter, Nicole Murray; and his sister and brother-in-law, Judith and Frank Higgins.
Butch will be missed more than words can say. He had a heart that simply wouldn’t quit, and the stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind ensure a part of it never will.
